Electronic
Your vehicle’s engine control unit, or ECU, is a computer that monitors engine emissions and ensures optimal performance by reading values from a multitude of sensors throughout the vehicle. With a well-functioning engine management system, your car will have a much better fuel economy and a more responsive performance with a smaller amount of vehicle emissions. Your ECU needs to be reprogrammed periodically in order to improve performance, and this can only be done by a highly-trained mechanic such as our mechanics at CityWide Auto Care.
Although the ECU is the most powerful computer in your car, there are also a number of other, smaller computers throughout it. Depending on the car, you may have computers that control:
- Automatic transmission
- Anti-lock brakes
- Airbag systems
- Keyless entry
- Security systems
- Multi-driver memory systems for seat and mirror positioning
- Radios with digital displays
- Cruise control systems
