Mary’s Story

My husband Bruce and I are the proud owners of Citywide Auto Care, and we’ve served local residents since 2002. We have worked together over the last 17 years to build an honest and reliable auto repair service that our neighbors in Orange can trust. In 2013, however, I was diagnosed with uterine cancer and had to take some time off of work to focus on my health. As an extremely close family unit, it was a difficult time for us. I could see how scared my husband and kids were for me, so I knew I had to battle my diagnosis with everything I had. I underwent radiation treatment five days a week for several months, which took a large toll on me and my loved ones. Although I beat my cancer battle after ten weeks, I still had to have PET scans every few months for five years to make sure it hadn’t come back. I never really talked about my diagnosis with anyone outside of my family during that time, because I always felt like it was too soon, and I was fearful that it may come back. Finally, in 2018, I was completely cleared. Now that my doctors have cleared me and I’m officially cancer-free, I feel able to talk about my story and say that I’m a cancer survivor. I want to share my story so that others who are going through similar struggles know that they’re never alone. Whether it’s a close family member or just the local auto repair shop, someone knows your struggle and wants to help you.
